Taimi partners with HearMe app to raise awareness of mental health struggles in LGBTQ+ people. HearMe's Head of Community Sarra will join us on Taimi Tips on the 26th of September 2021 to speak about mental health and being a better listener.

Battling loneliness with genuine connections

With the COVID-19 pandemic, mental health issues have been on a steady rise. Lockdowns, uncertainty and fear contribute to loneliness even in people who had no prior struggles with mental health. The already present struggles with mental health in the LGBTQ+ community are heightened by the current increase in stress. Many need an empathetic ear and a safe space to release the pile-up of emotions. HearMe can provide exactly that, with 92% of users reporting feeling better after just one conversation.

HearMe is an on-demand emotional wellness app that connects members to trained volunteer listeners for quick text chat anytime and anywhere. Founded by Adam Lippin, HearMe aims to use the power of listening to provide a safe space for people to share what’s on their minds with listeners who want to be there. With thousands of empathetic listeners across the globe, HearMe helps people find support, release stress, and feel better through one-on-one peer support.

To ensure a good match, the volunteer is chosen according to the preferences and topics picked by the user. Topics have a wide range, from work stress or relationships to LGBTQ+ and identity. All conversations are anonymous, confidential and encrypted to allow everyone to talk safely. These little genuine connections with someone dedicated to hearing you out can help battle stress and loneliness. While the app is not a replacement for licensed therapy, it can be a great extra support system.

Taimi x HearMe collaboration

Supporting LGBTQ+ people and their mental health is a goal of high importance to all of us at Taimi. Our COO Jake Vygnan spoke out on the topic of mental health struggles in the queer community earlier in September for World Suicide Prevention Day. Partnering with HearMe is another step in raising awareness and providing people with tools to handle mental health issues.

We invited Sarra from HearMe to speak about Mental Health and Being A Better Listener during last Sunday's Taimi Tips. Sarra is HearMe’s Head of Community, helping manage, oversee and support the training of the app’s large community of volunteer listeners while ensuring its members feel supported. With a psychology and social work background, Sarra is a massive believer in the importance of empathetic and active listening and peer support to improve mental health and well-being.
