TAIMI — LGBTQI+ Social Network and Dating App celebrates the day that showcases incredible diversity of women loving women around the world.

Lesbian Visibility Day is on Sunday, April 26th. The day is a part of the first-ever Lesbian Visibility Week that starts on the 20th. The week was created by DIVA Magazine to “celebrate lesbians and show solidarity with all women in our community”.

In February, TAIMI’s Head of Business Development Halyna Virt gave an in-depth interview to DIVA Magazine on what the app is doing for the LGBTQI+ people around the globe.

In light of Lesbian Visibility week DIVA Magazine published an amazing list of 100 talented, strong, dedicated visible lesbians.

TAIMI, wants to salute all lesbians and remind them to be visible, to speak out against bullying, anger, harassment and discrimination.

Here are just a few of the incredible women who made the list. These lesbians are certainly making incredible things happen not only for their community but for the whole world!

Lady Phyll Opoku-Gyimah — TAIMI’s team had the pleasure of meeting this truly inspiring woman at GAY TIMES Honours 500 in London, United Kingdom last fall. Lady Phyll Opoku-Gyimah is a strong advocate for equal rights, she is the co-founder and executive director of UK Black Pride, as well as an executive director at the Kaleidoscope Trust.

Cynthia Nixon — the award-winning American actor and activist. Nixon ran for governor of her home state of New York in 2018, challenging two-term incumbent Andrew Cuomo for the Democratic nomination. This year, the long-time women’s right advocate stirred a powerful conversation on a global scale with a short film showcasing the conflicting and damaging messages women are bombarded with on a regular basis.

Claudia Lopez Hernandez this Colombian politician made history in October 2019. Lopez Hernandez was elected mayor of the capital city of Bogotá. She is the very first woman to hold the post. She is also the first openly lesbian mayor in a country where LGBT+ people continue to face discrimination and violence.

Ellen DeGeneres — the television host, actor, stand up comic, Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient is the most recognizable LGBT+ American according to many surveys. She came out in a very public manner during the days (1997 to be exact) when there were very few openly gay celebrities. DeGeneres is an active supporter of LGBT+ and women’s rights, she is an advocate for orphans and disadvantaged children, abuse victims and those suffering from AIDS.

Lena Waithe an American screenwriter, producer, and actor. Waithe is the first black woman to win the Prime time Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series in 2017 for writing the show Master of None “Thanksgiving” episode. The episode was somewhat based on her personal coming out experience. Waithe is known for working to recruit more people of color and queer artists in both film and TV industries.

Megan Rapinoe — one of the most vocal lesbian voices of 2019. Rapinoe made headlines for speaking out against inequality, racism, advocating LGBTQ+ rights, and taking on Donald Trump’s policies. The U.S. national soccer team forward led her country’s team to World Cup Victory last year. Rapinoe was recognized as the best player of the year. In 2019, she won both the Golden Ball and Golden Boot awards.

Ellen Page — the Canadian actor and producer is a fighter for human and environmental rights. Page, who came out as gay during a speech at the Human Rights Campaign conference in 2014 has always been vocal about breaking the silence against abuse and discrimination in the film industry. Recently, Page released a documentary financed using her own money about the environmental racism against Indigenous and Black Nova Scotian communities.

This April 26 be sure to celebrate all the incredible lesbians in your life!
