The announcement was made during the latest episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show on June 1st.

Taimi — the world’s largest LGBTQ+ platform and the Home of Diversity — donated $25.000 to The Trevor Project. Taimi partnered up with The Ellen DeGeneres Show which shared a word about the initiative during the latest episode. The donation, made at the beginning of Pride season, contributes to The Trevor Project’s mission of saving and supporting LGBTQ+ youth who suffer from suicidal feelings.

“LGBTQ+ young people can feel extremely lonely, and we at Taimi know this firsthand. Our support team gets tons of messages from people under 25 who say they don’t feel understood, or even safe in their communities. Of course, it makes it hard for them to open up. During the pandemic, 77% of 18–24 users on Taimi were looking for chat or friends. It’s almost 20% more compared to pre-pandemic times.
We created Taimi to combat this very issue. We want it to be a space where people don’t feel judged and can find someone who’ll like them for who they truly are. That’s why we’re supporting like-minded professionals at The Trevor Project. They are doing a life-saving job”, says Alex Pasykov, CEO and Founder of Taimi.

According to The Trevor Project’s new survey, 42% of LGBTQ youth seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year. More than half of them were transgender and nonbinary youth. Weekly, Taimi’s support team gets texts with suicidal thoughts or threats from on average 3 people.

“Our support team is trained to deal with people who may be on the verge of taking their own lives. We work with psychologists and professionals from non-profit organizations like Lifeline, who educate us about suicide and suicidal threats, and teach how to handle such situations. Our agents help solve not only technical problems; they listen. On an app like ours it has to be a given”, says Helen Virt, Taimi’s Head of Business Development.

Taimi’s posts and photo moderators always share the link to The Trevor Project with users who may need help. In 2018, Taimi also added a button in Live Help Chat which redirected young users suffering from suicidal thoughts to The Trevor Lifeline. Here’s where you can donate to The Trevor Project.
